This Casio CZ-1000 Phase Distortion Synthesizer came in with a non-working ring modulator and some other non-working buttons. Opening it up I first met these nasty, leaky batteries. Always and often check your batteries...
And what they did was, they spread their substance over some parts, especially over fragile pcb connector cables and caused corrosion (green points).
What then happened was, they broke off the pcb and made no longer contact (cable right side, first few pins).
What I needed to do was to cut of the cable a bit to get rid of the corrosion.
Then I stripped the cable by carefully applying some acetone.
Then I could tin the wires and re-connected them. I also changed all the tactile buttons, replaced some components, which also showed greenish corrosion and glued the front panel in place. They are working now, but they will stop working some time in the future, trust me.
There are lethal voltage exposed in electronic devices. Unless you know what you are doing, don’t try this. If you following along, you doing so at your own risk.
