Repair Oberheim OBXa Vintage Analog Synthesizer Reparatur17. November 2019
On this Roland MC-4 Microcomposer customer wanted to replace the switch buttons. Two notes from my side:
1. Pay attention to the display.
This is a Vacuum Fluorescent Display. So pay attention to the neck of it. It can easily break the glass when servicing the pcb. I double protected it and never let it sit flat on the bench !
2. The original switches could be refurbished, but if you use replacement switched (like my customer wanted me to do so) and if you want to keep the original metal support frame, you have to desolder these from its small pcb. Otherwise they won't get thru the metal. When you put them into the MC-4 look that they line up straight with the front. Looks aweful when one is sitting more right, the other more left.
Otherwise nothing special here. Some surface rust, missing knob...
There are lethal voltage exposed in electronic devices. Unless you know what you are doing, don’t try this. If you following along, you doing so at your own risk.
