Diese LinnDrum wurde mir zur Reparatur zugesendet. Der Kunde klagte über mehrere Fehler. Die LinnDrum startete nicht, sie ließ sich nicht programmieren, bzw. nicht richtig, einige Sounds waren ersetzt worden und ich sollte allgemein mal sehen, was noch zu machen war.

This LinnDrum was sent to me for repair. The customer complained of several errors. The LinnDrum didn't start, it couldn't be programmed, or not correctly, some sounds had been replaced and I should generally see what else could be done.

Das die LinnDrum nicht bootete zeigte sie eindrucksvoll mit all Ihren LEDs, besoners dem „00“ in dem 7-Segment Display. Mehr macht sie dann auch nicht. Üblicherweise ist es entweder ein Fehler im Power Safe Schaltkreis, oder aber im eigentlichen Reset Schaltkreis.

It showed that the LinnDrum did not boot with all of its LEDs, especially the "00" in the 7-segment display. She doesn't do more than that. Usually it is either a fault in the Power Safe circuit or in the actual reset circuit.

Da die Powersafe Schaltung hier die Ursache war und weil das verbaute Netzteil heftige Anzeichen von Korrosion zeigte, habe ich meinem Kunden das Netzteil von Synthronics empfohlen. Es ist einfach großartig, leicht und vor allem zuverlässig..

Since the Powersafe circuit was the cause here and because the built-in power supply showed severe signs of corrosion, I recommended the power supply from Synthronics to my customer. It's just great, light, and most importantly, reliable.

Die Hauptprobleme waren durch den Einbau des neuen Netzteils beseitigt. Die LinnDrum startete einwandfrei. Das RAM wurde nicht mehr zufällig beschrieben, somit ließ sich die LinnDrum wieder richtig programmieren. Also konnte ich mich um die kleineren Probleme kümmern, z.B. die Eproms austauschen, die jemand zuvor durch Custom Sounds ersetzt hatte.

The main problems were eliminated by installing the new power supply unit. The LinnDrum started flawlessly. The RAM was no longer written to randomly, so the LinnDrum could be programmed correctly again. So I was able to take care of the smaller problems, e.g. replace the Eproms that someone had previously replaced with custom sounds.

Ich habe dann noch alle Fader gereinigt. Diese arbeiteten nicht mehr zuverlässig. Ein paar Eprom Sockel habe ich durch neue ersetzt, weil sie durch häufiges Wechseln der Eproms verschlissen waren und die Eproms/Sounds beim Abspielen BitCrush Sounds von sich gaben.

I then cleaned all the faders. These no longer worked reliably. I replaced a couple of Eprom sockets with new ones because they were worn out due to frequent changing of the Eproms and the Eproms / sounds emitted BitCrush sounds when they were played.

Die Drum Trigger Taster waren stark korrodiert. Manchmal lösten sie gar nicht bzw. nur schwer aus. Häufig jedoch gab es mehrfach Trigger.

The drum trigger buttons were badly corroded. Sometimes they did not trigger at all or only with difficulty. Often, however, there were multiple triggers.

Ich habe noch die Elkos getauscht. Diese alten, lila Matsushita Elkos sind wirklich eine Plage. Zum Glück waren nach Tausch des Netzteils eh kaum noch welche vorhanden.

I still exchanged the electrolytic capacitors. Those old, purple Matsushita electrolytic capacitors are a real nuisance. Fortunately, after replacing the power supply, there were hardly any left anyway..

There are lethal voltage exposed in electronic devices. Unless you know what you are doing, don’t try this. If you following along, you doing so at your own risk.
