A customer brought in a synthesizer puzzle. He tried to repair the display but desoldering the backlight may not an easy task. I suggested, to switch over to a new display. These are cheap and their different colours look beautiful..
See the agressive electrolyte coing out of the old capacitors. If you plan to replace such display, you have to modify the power supply to the display. By doing that you will also eliminate the annoying whining noise from such synthesizers.
Caution
There are lethal voltage exposed in electronic devices. Unless you know what you are doing, don’t try this. If you following along, you doing so at your own risk.
