Korg Poly 61. The battery was leaky and it needed MIDI installed. In this case the Tubbutec ModyPoly
Well, I think everybody clearly noticed, that this rechargable battery was leaky and had to be replaced. If you are unsure just carefully cut them on the legs and get it off the synth.
There is a guy who sells reproduction boards. But in this case I found it easier to fix it. Be carefuly, this nasty stuff gets easily all over the place. So I decided to desolder some components to look under and neutralize the battery corrosion.
It worked out pretty well. Next time I may order a replacement pcb.
I also replaced some connectors. I could clearly spot battery corrosion inside. So if not already done it will cause damage to the pins and to the cable. I also saw this walking thru a cable onto another board. Yes, that can happen!
While neutralizing this battery corrosion with citric acid and distilled water I noticed some leaky capacitors on the cpu board. So I thought it might be a good idea to replace all electrolytic capacitors. If you don´t do this it will damage your synth, sooner or later. Here you can spot leaky capacitors on the panel board. While I had this apart I also cleaned the potentiometer.
Last but not least I installed the Tubbutec ModyPoly into this Korg Poly 61. I always don´t like drilling holes into a vintage synthesizer.
There are lethal voltage exposed in electronic devices. Unless you know what you are doing, don’t try this. If you following along, you doing so at your own risk.
