Repair Roland Alpha Juno 2 Vintage Analog Synthesizer

Roland Alpha Juno 2 Vintage Analog Synthesizer. 3 keys weren’t working. 2 dead silent, 1 too loud. This was caused by a broken contact strip which I replaced with a used one from a parts machine. I also cleaned the whole keypad.

Very often there is old glue on the boards that was there to hold the large capacitors to prevent from vibration, so the solder joints don´t get weak. This glue can cause several problems, such as corrosion or it can become conductive. I better clean this off.

Usually most of these faders of all old vintage synth are quite dirty, usually they have never been opened until I get them on my bench. So I usually expect a lot of dust and dirt inside, so, again, it make no sense for me, just to spray in any kind of contact cleaner. This would temporarily make good contact, but you won´t get the dirt off the slider. You will also wash out all the junk which, when the contact cleaner dry out, spread all over the carbon track which makes it even worse. On my bench it's gets a proper, professional cleaning.

You can also expect the dust cover, that protect the sliders agains any dust, will be worn out and have to be renewed. Otherwise they fall into pieces and "rain" into the faders and make it even worse over time.

There are lethal voltage exposed in electronic devices. Unless you know what you are doing, don’t try this. If you following along, you doing so at your own risk.
